History & tradition
The official U.P.S.E.S. history says local organizers began raising funds in 1920 to create a chapel and community hall for Festa do Espirito Santo celebrations.
The original chapel was inaugurated in 1922 and the current U.P.S.E.S. hall opened in 1948 as the community expanded.
The organizers emphasize that the chapel remains one of only two original Portuguese chapels in California and continues to play a central role in Holy Spirit devotion.
